| Information: This program is a week long, overnight
academy designed for youth ages 13-17yrs old in the Tri-County area of
Ritchie, Pleasants and Doddridge Counties and is operated in a
para-military fashion at the Ritchie County 4-H grounds. This academy is
not a "BOOT CAMP". Although, this academy will engage youth to deter
high-risk taking behavior. The Academy will encourage positive behaviors
of respect, self-worth, and leadership skills to promote individual
growth. This Academy will instill educational and life skills to equip
participants to promote a higher quality/standard of living. In doing
so, academy participants will assimilate positive lifestyles and
community involvement by serving as positive role models and will share
their personal life experiences and testimonies.

| Activities/Course Content: · Orientation / Protocol & Procedure for academy life · History of law enforcement · Drug awareness and identification · Use and care of police equipment · Mock Accident (traffic accident) · Motor vehicle law / Criminal law · Stop and approaching violators (Scenario Based Traffic Stops) · Mock Trial (Role played at magistrate court) · Introduction to SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) · Juvenile Law · Conflict Resolution · Character education and character building · Trip to North Central Regional Jail · Trip to Salem Industrial Home for Youth · K-9 Demonstration (Patrol Dog / Narcotic Dog / Explosive Recognition) · Range Safety / fundamentals of shooting · Fatal Vision / Alcohol awareness · Finger printing techniques · Night vision demonstration · Keynote speakers on Prevention of alcohol, and other drug abuse · Recreation to include: Team competition, Movie under the stars, Talent contest, Karaoke, Free time, Swimming, volleyball, horseshoes, Scavenger hunt, Graduation – Family Cookout. |
